According to the Director of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China, Guan Zhiou, as of November 26, 2024, the global captive population of giant pandas has reached 757, and the structure of the panda population continues to improve.

On the 26th, at the 2024 Global Panda Partner Conference held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, Guan Zhiou said that China has established 67 giant panda nature reserves and officially established the Giant Panda National Park in 2021, forming a habitat protection system with the Giant Panda National Park as the main body. The total area has expanded from 1.39 million hectares to 2.58 million hectares, and 85% of the wild giant panda population has achieved genetic and habitat exchange. At present, the wild population of giant pandas has grown to around 1900.

According to a notice from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China at the beginning of the year, as of January 2024, there were 1864 wild pandas and 728 captive giant pandas in China. The data has currently been updated.
