The distribution area and population size of giant pandas are decreasing day by day, the most important reason being the significant loss of habitats and high fragmentation (i.e. isolation into isolated islands). The reason for habitat loss lies in the rapid increase in population, excessive consumption, the destruction of large forests and bamboo forests caused by agricultural cultivation, as well as activities such as road construction and sightseeing.
The flowering of bamboo causes many giant pandas to lack food, but this is a necessary stage in their normal life cycle. From the perspective of community biology, large-scale flowering and withering of bamboo can promote the regeneration of other plants, which is also a necessary process in maintaining species and ecosystem diversity. The flowering of bamboo should not have threatened the survival of giant pandas. Various types of bamboo have different flowering cycles. When one species blooms, giant pandas can also migrate to find other bamboo to eat. However, due to the extremely small and isolated habitats of giant pandas, once bamboo blooms, giant pandas living on "isolated islands" face the dilemma of lacking food.
