As one of the most popular panda tourism bases, in 2023, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (including Dujiangyan Irrigation Project Panda Valley) has received 11.9375 million tourists, the annual ticket revenue was 462.1746 million yuan.
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding was established based on the breeding and treatment of giant pandas at the Chengdu Zoo. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is located at 1375 Panda Avenue, Chenghua District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. It is 10 kilometers away from the city center and more than 30 kilometers away from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. It is a world-renowned ex situ conservation base, research and breeding base, public education base, and educational tourism base for giant pandas. The base covers an area of 1000 acres. As a "Ecological Demonstration Project for Ex Situ Conservation of Giant Pandas," it is renowned for protecting and breeding endangered wild animals unique to China, such as giant pandas and red pandas. In 1997, an open laboratory was established.
The Entry of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
The total area of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is 3570 acres, with an expansion area of 2535 acres. The base simulates the wild ecological environment of giant pandas through gardening techniques, with orderly distribution of giant panda delivery rooms, panda breeding areas, research centers, and panda hospitals. Several luxurious panda "villas" are scattered in the mountains and forests. The expansion area fully continues to use the original terrain and landform, utilizing mountains and streams to form a multi-level landscape belt of mountains and valleys.

According to the characteristics of the panda base, the project is generally divided into areas such as Adventure Valley Area, Infinite Hill Area, Treasure Lake Area (old park of the Panda Base), Exploration Jungle Area, Hero Farm Area, and Scientific Exploration Area. Among them, "Infinite Hill" includes four giant panda pavilions: "Xuri Pavilion," "Yingri Pavilion," "Yunri Pavilion," and "Shengri Pavilion." "Adventure Valley" includes seven giant panda pavilions: "Shanyue Pavilion," "Yunyue Pavilion," "Qiuyue Pavilion," "Wangyue," "Mingyue Pavilion," "Jiangyue Pavilion," and "Lanyue Pavilion.
In 1995, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding was awarded the "Global 500" title by the United Nations Environment Programme. In 2006, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda was rated as a national AAAA tourist attraction. As of the end of 2020, the population of giant pandas reached 215, making it the largest artificial breeding population of captive giant pandas in the world.
